ZeeTV singing superstars to perform in Guyana

The 3 finalists Abhilasha Chellum, Kamal Khan and Bisakh Jyoti

India’s elite television show, ZeeTV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstars will be coming to Guyana to perform at Dharmic Sabha’s Arrival Day celebrations at the Providence National Stadium.

According to the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s committee, this will be a spectacular two-day event at the National Stadium, Providence on April 30 and May 1, to commemorate the arrival of Indians to Guyana 173 years ago.

Different and exciting programmes are planned for each day. On Saturday, April 30, ZeeTV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstars winner Kamal Khan, and finalists Abhilasha Chellam and Bishakh Jyoti will perform along with seven musicians from Mumbai, India. Dances will be done by the Sabha’s Dharmic Nritya Sangh dance group.

On Sunday May 1, performances will be done by top Guyanese artistes, including singers Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha, Suchitra Rampersaud, Mona, Chevalia and the Dharmic Nritya Sangh. Music will be provided by the Caribbean Hotshots band. There will also be guest artistes from Trinidad.

On both days, there will be fun games for the entire family. Traditional foods served hot from the “tawa and karaahi” will be on sale. A variety of chokhas, curries, rotis, potato balls, samosas, and other tasty dishes and a tempting spread of Indian sweetmeats will be in abundance. Ladies can have intricate patterns of mehendi applied on their hands. There will also be an opportunity to do some shopping of traditional Indian wear.

Gates open at 17:00 hours each day. Tickets for the Saturday show are Gy$1000 and VIP Gy$5,000 and are available at Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra, Annjees on Sheriff Street, Bhagwan’s, Harinarine and Sons, Murti Shop on the West Coast, M & M Snackette, Princess Hotel Guyana, and R Gossai & Sons General Store. A limited number of VIP all-inclusive tickets are also available. These can be booked by calling 227-6181. Tickets for Sunday cost Gy$500. Children under five years old will be admitted free of cost.
