The president of the Yoruba Heritage Foundation, the socio-cultural and charitable arm of the Ifa Aiyetoro Church, Chief Priest Balogun Mwanza said he firmly believes in the adage, “Education is the key to success.” Acting upon this conviction, the Yoruba Heritage Foundation has been distributing educational and other related school supplies to several schools within the Buxton/Foulis NDC district on the East Coast of Demerara.

These include ballpoint pens, highlighters, lead pencils, pencil sharpeners, plastic, wooden and cutting edge rulers, plastic file folders, reading books, computational skill books, composition notebooks, ledgers, one subject notebooks, writing paper, exercise books and crayons, among other items.

Three schools – ULEC Academy of Paradise Village, Paradise Primary School and the May 26 Nursery School at Melanie Damishana, have already received their supplies, the Chief Priest stated. Several other district schools and groups are also earmarked for distribution.

The president of the foundation, in brief remarks with Guyana Times Sunday Magazine, said that the supplies were donated by local and overseas-based church members, as well as relatives of members. He emphasized that the board and members of the YHF passionately believe in the value of, and options that a good education can provide for anyone in life. He further pointed out that is why the foundation, in sourcing the pens, had them stamped with the affirmation “Education is the key to success.” It was also highlighted that the foundation has been doing this and other forms of charitable work for the past eleven years.
