WIPA satisfied with players’ arrangements for CCC and Jamaica clashes in Guyana

– Preliminary preparations commence, says GCB president

Chief Executive Officer of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), Michael Hall on Wednesday afternoon confirmed that the body is pleased with the players’ arrangements set out by the WICB for the hosting of Guyana’s final two rounds of clashes against Combined Campuses and Colleges and Jamaica. “WIPA was only concerned with one thing – the arrangements for the match reaching the minimum standard.

However, we have agreed with the WICB and we now have assurance that it will and so we are happy that cricket will be played in Guyana. WIPA had just advised the WICB that WIPA is happy with the arrangements for the players,” Hall indicated via telephone on Wednesday.
Guyana Times International Sport also learnt on Wednesday from a high level WICB official that it was awaiting WIPA’s agreement. Hall revealed that he was in a meeting with WIPA president Wavell Hinds before the decision was made, effectively adding the final piece to puzzle for the GCB to host rounds six and seven of the ongoing regional tournaments.
The matches will be played at the Guyana National Stadium and the local boys will play the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in Round 6 and Jamaica in Round 7, according to a WICB release late Wednesday afternoon.
According to the WICB release, “All matches will be played at the Guyana National Stadium and dates and match times remain unchanged.
“The Board of Directors of the WICB approved a recommendation at the last meeting that the two Super50 and two 4 Day matches be played in Guyana. All the necessary agreements have now been received and the Guyana Cricket Board will host the games.” It is the first time in two seasons that Guyana will play home games after playing away for all their games in the 2012 season and in the first half of the current season.
Further, the high ranking official of the WICB said that all systems are in place for the hosting of the matches in Guyana.
Meanwhile, president of the GCB, Drubahadur revealed on Wednesday that the local body has commenced preliminary preparations for the staging of matches.

Matches pulled
This publication (local edition) had reported on Tuesday that the matches were pulled after the WICB website (www.windiescricket.com) on Monday indicated that the matches would have been staged at the Three Ws Oval, Barbados and Jamaica’s Sabina Park.
However, the GCB president said Wednesday “as we speak right now, the regional four-day and Super50 matches against CCC and Jamaica will be played at the National Stadium, Providence and not in Barbados and Jamaica,” adding “preliminary preparations have already commenced for the staging of the matches.
He also stated that the Guyana National Stadium has been made available for the staging of the regional matches.
The Guyana/ Combined Campuses and Colleges four-day game will be played from March 30, while the Super50 game is scheduled for April 4. The Guyana team will then play their Super50 game against Jamaica on April 7, while the four-day game will start two days later.
The regional competitions have been suspended for one week because of the ongoing first test match between West Indies and Zimbabwe.
