Williamson replaces Dharry on ‘The Redemption’ card

Elton Dharry

‘The Redemption’ boxing card continues to undergo changes, as Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry has now been replaced by the young and promising Berbician Richard Williamson on the five-fight roster on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Dharry, the United States of America-based Guyanese, was slated to defend his WBC CABOFE bantamweight title against Jamaican Rudolph Hedge in the main supporting clash, but has been forced out of the contest after contracting influenza, the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) informed yesterday.
President of the GBBC, Peter Abdool, said the 26-year-old is in no shape to fight, and the Board opted to go against risking him in such an important fight. Hedge, who is 7-0 with three drawn encounters, will face Williamson (1-1) in a catchweight fight lasting six rounds.
In the main bout, Guyana’s former world champion, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite will trade punches with Trinidad and Tobago-based Guyanese, Sean Corbin, for the vacant WBC CABOFE cruiserweight title, while the other title fight of the night will bring together Guyanese Clive Atwell and Prince Lee Isidore of Trinidad and Tobago vying for the vacant WBC CABOFE junior welterweight title at 140 pounds.
On the undercard, reigning national and Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) middleweight champion, Edmond ‘Wonder Boy’ DeClou will take on Kelsie George in a six-round super middleweight bout, while Dexter Marques will make a return to the ring against Rudolph Fraser in a six-round featherweight contest.
These two fights replace the four-round catchweight rematch between Kishan Simon and Patrick Boston and the Gladwyn Dorway/Troy Lewis’ four-round catchweight contest.
Already, Braithwaite and Corbin have arrived in Guyana, while Isidore is set to arrive here today. Hedge will touch down on local soil tomorrow evening.
The card, which will commence at 20:00 hours, has received corporate support from Courts (Guyana) Inc., Ansa McAl Trading, Banks DIH Limited, Digicel, Guyoil, and Giftland OfficeMax.
Admission to the venue is $3,000 for Ringside and $1,000 Stands. (Avenash Ramzan)
