…cause of death given as fractured spine, blunt trauma
Police in the Cinderella County are now investigating the death of one of their own after a post-mortem examination (PME)
conducted on the body of retired Police Sergeant Parmanand Persaud revealed he died as a result of a fractured spine and blunt trauma to the neck.
Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh performed the PME on Tuesday and immediately after the findings, the dead man’s wife and son were taken into custody and are assisting with investigations.
Persaud, 56, of Lot 85 Anna Regina Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Public Hospital about 19:00h on October 12. Sergeant Persaud last worked as Station Sergeant at the Charity Police Station before proceeding on retirement.
A source close to the investigation told this publication that Persaud recently received a large sum of cash as part of his gratuity.
The source stated that following Persaud’s death, relatives became suspicious and informed the Police of their suspicions.
According to the source, the Police also had their suspicions, but waited on the PME results before taking any action.
