West Demerara carpenter electrocuted

The life of a carpenter was snuffed out on Wednesday afternoon after he was electrocuted while working on a building in Georgetown. The incident occurred sometime around 12:00h.
Dead is Faizal “Imraan” Ali, 35, of Lot 83 Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara. According to a police press release, the father of three was in the process of erecting a metal scaffold when a metal tool which he was holding came into contact with a live electrical wire. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
When Guyana Times International visited the home of the man’s parents, family and friends had gathered to express their condolences and give comfort. His mother was crying uncontrollably and had to be comforted by relatives.

Speaking with this newspaper, the dead man’s brother, Roshan Ali, said he was at work when he received a call around 14: 30h from an unknown person, who told him that his brother was in the hospital.
“I don’t know is who call me tell me that Imraan in de hospital, so I call back the person and he tell me my brother still in the hospital and he going by me mother house,” he related.
Roshan said when he got home, he was told that his brother had died.
Upon hearing, Ali said they rushed to Georgetown and went to his work place where they were told by his co-workers that Faizal was on a scaffold when the electrical wire burst and came into contact with him.
Roshan recalled that afterwards, they had to go to the Brickdam Police Station to give information to the police and by the time they reached the hospital, they were told that they could not see Faizal’s body, because the mortuary was already closed.
He said that the owner of the building is not in the country and is expected to return this week; however, his wife had visited them and offered to assist in any way possible. Roshan said that although his brother and the mother of his children were separated, he would still contribute to the maintenance of his nieces and nephews.
Faizal, the fifth of six children, was described as a quiet person, who had turned his life around. His body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
