West Berbice Super Kings lifted the West Berbice Cricket Association/ Goodwill Twenty/ 20 trophy on Sunday after they beat Bath/ Woodley Park Invaders by 20 runs at the Bath Settlement Community Center ground. Both teams went into the final after recording contrasting victories over city teams -Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) and Transport Sports Club (TSC).
After the game was reduced to 12 overs, West Berbice Super Kings batted first and were restricted to 129 for 4 in their allotted overs. Puran Persaud, who was later adjudged player-of-the-final top scored with 36.
He received support from Artherly Bailey (25), Raffel Estraido (18) and Serwin McPherson (16).
In reply Bath/ Woodley Park Invaders could only manage 109 for 4 in the allotted overs. Only Andrew Dutchin (36) made any substantial contribution with the bat.
Meanwhile, both semifinals were reduced to 15 overs per side. West Berbice Super Kings defeated TSC by 69 runs in their semi-final game. Batting first the Super Kings made 148 for 8 with Estraido scoring an unblemished 75 (5×4, 5×6), Keith Fraser, 24, and Bailey, 23.
Carl Rambarose was the most penetrative bowler for TSC, claiming 3-15.
In reply TSC were restricted to 79 for 8. In the other semifinal Bath/ Woodley Park Invaders got the better of GYO by three wickets. Replying to 104 for victory, the hosts reached the target with two overs to spare. Dutchin top scored with 30.
West Berbice Super Kings received the top prize of Gy$ 20,000 and the winner’s trophy while Bath/ Woodley Park Invaders collected Gy$ 10,000 and trophy.
