Wedding Expo couples treated to aerial view of Georgetown

The four engaged couples vying to win a free dream wedding in the race to the altar contest were treated to a stimulating aerial view of Georgetown by Roraima Group of Companies.
The contest will be the highlight of the fifth annual Wedding Expo, organised by Duke Lodge.
Roraima’s marketing manager, Shamaine Davis said the trip was another way of ensuring that the other three couples who will not win the contest walk away with another memento, in addition to the Arrowpoint Nature Resort trip held on February 24.

“The whole idea of being a part of the “Race to the Altar” is about providing an experience to the couples, being able to showcase Guyana and being able to show that it is about a wholesome experience,” she explained.
Captain Larie Barclay, who piloted the tour aircraft, congratulated the shortlisted couples. Several of the sights the couples saw from the air were the International Conference Centre, the University of Guyana, the Guyana National Stadium, the Aquatic Centre, Stabroek Market, St George’s Cathedral and the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Lawrence Ferrier, one half of couple number four who had never travelled in an airplane before, described the experience as extremely awesome and one he would never forget. “We saw the Demerara Harbour Bridge, it’s very nice… I always wanted to travel in a plane.”
Meanwhile, his fiancée, Jacqueline Williams, said Guyana is beautiful and she enjoys being a Guyanese.
Romona Raghunath and Balkaran Singh, couple number two who also had never travelled in a plane prior to the tour, noted that the view was breath-taking.
They stated that sharing the experience together was lovely. Raghunath said, “I was squeezing his hands all the time… I think I was more scared than him.”
Oshanie Waithe of couple number three said her fiancé, who also had never travelled in a plane before, was panicky. “He was squeezing my hands all the time… I was trying to get a shot of the town… to show my friends, so I can show off and he was just squeezing my hands, squeezing my hands but it was nice.”
Her fiancé Lee Davis said the experience was scary but thrilling. “I would love to go again… it was okay but I was frightened for the first time.” He stated that the experience was memorable – something to share with their children.
Davis expressed happiness that his fiancée had entered them in the contest. He described the experience as memorable and said “there is no winner or loser everyone here is a winner.”
Quacy Coggins, of couple number one, said it was good sharing the experience together, while his fiancée Parveena Jodhan added that it was her first time in a plane and he had to give her a first kiss in a plane.
All four couples said it did not matter who won or lost since they had formed friendships with each other.
Persons who would like to vote for their favourite couple can text 620-VOTE followed by their couple’s number. The winning couple will be revealed on the evening of March 8 at Duke Lodge.
