Web directory launched

Local PR agency Perception Public Relations on Thursday unveiled the first mobile directory in Guyana, which it says will change the way people find businesses when they really need to.

Head of the Agency, Ajay Baksh, at a news conference to launch the service, expressed great pride in being the pioneer of such an initiative. He stated that it represents Guyanese innovation.

Baksh explained that the site: www.oi.gy is a yellow page-style directory that is accessible by any mobile phone having Internet access, and the site will soon hold a wide range of numbers as businesses continue to sign on to the service.

Businesses are being offered to have their numbers listed on the website at a cost of Gy$22 daily, while cell phone users will be able to access the site free of charge.

“It will be available 24/7 to anyone who has an Internet-enabled phone. It is the power of search in your hands on the go any time you need it. www.oi.gy links customers with businesses in an active directory with click-to-call convenience for less than the cost of a few sweets,” Baksh said at the launch.

He explained that there are several businesses currently listed on the site free of charge. However, as more businesses sign on to the initiative, all businesses would be required to pay. The developer announced that persons who have full- or part-time businesses or services can list on the site. In addition to being listed on the cell phone site, businesses will also be listed on the Internet-based version of the site, which will feature company profile and additional contact options.

Another feature that will be on the site is one which allows users to access real-time flight schedules directly from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Baksh explained that this is also a convenient feature, since it can serve as useful to various persons.

So far, his company has sold quite a number of listings to companies, and the responses have been good; however, it may be too early to tell, he admitted.
