– says father of 11-year-old girl died in former top cop’s accident

More than one month after 11-year-old Shaffiya Jamaluddin of Canefield, East Canje, Berbice, was killed in an accident at Waller’s Delight/ Harlem, West Coast Demerara, her parents are likely to sue the estate of former Police Commissioner Henry Greene, who was also killed in the accident.

Flashback: Henry Greene being removed from his vehicle after the fatal accident

The former top cop was reportedly driving his motor vehicle PLL 7411 at a fast rate along the roadway at Harlem, West Coast Demerara, when he reportedly veered into the lane of motor car PJJ 4812, which was travelling in the opposite direction, resulting in a head-on collision.
The child’s father Bashirdeen Jamaluddin explained that based on reports he has received, Greene was responsible for his daughter’s death, and as such, he has intentions to take legal action against Greene’s estate. He posited that since the accident occurred, no family member of the deceased cop has visited his home, or attempted to make contact with his immediate family.
The distraught father said that members of a Muslim organisation are presently looking at the legal aspect of the matter and a decision will be taken shortly with respect to their intentions. He said since the accident, things have not been the same financially with his family.
All his savings, he noted have been consumed, and as a rice farmer, he is now trying to rebuild his life, but his daughter’s memories will never fade.
He stated that his wife Zaitoon Hoosein was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital after spending about three weeks there, and is presently staying with her relatives at Fyrish, Corentyne, Region Six.
The man told Guyana Times International that his wife is recuperating, but is constantly in tears. Initially, he noted that his injured wife was not informed about the passing of their daughter. Upon her being discharged, she inquired about her daughter and there was nothing Bashirdeen could have done, but to reveal the truth to her.
Sobbing in the background during the telephone conversation, he said that his wife broke down, but later told him “is probably God want she… she in heaven with he”. He said too that the family could not have waited on his wife to bury the child, due to their religious belief.
Bashirdeen related to his wife that on the day of the tragic incident, they were reportedly travelling to Parika when he recognised a white 4-runner coming over to their lane, and in an attempt to avoid the collision, the driver of the car pulled over to the side of the road and stopped, but the vehicle ended up slamming into them.
“Right now, I don’t want to pressure her, but it so dull at house without meh wife and daughter; meh use to take meh daughter to school; bring she home; feed she and now the house just empty… I can’t wuk properly… She always in meh mind,” the man cried.
In addition, he explained that Raheem Kaleem, the driver of the car at the time of the accident is paralysed; he suffered a broken hip, feet, hands and other parts of his body. This publication understands that presently, steel has been inserted in his legs and hip.
His two sons, Reeaz Kaleem, 18, and Fawaaz Kaleem, 15, received injuries and have been discharged from the hospital, but they remember the tragic accident.
