Head coach of the Golden Jaguars Jamaal Shabazz believes that the locally based players have to become fitter if they are to stand any chance of playing in the World Cup Qualifiers in June.

This comment came after the under-strength Golden Jaguars side went down 2-1 to Tobago All-Star XI on Tuesday evening at the Dwight Yorke Stadium. Ten minutes into the game the Jaguars were down by two goals after two defensive errors by Kris Comacho.

Alpha United striker Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams pulled one back for Guyana in the 23rd minute and that the way the score line until the final whistle.

Assessing the performance of the side, Shabazz said that the local players need to lift their game.

“The local Guyana based players must get fitter if they are to stand any chance of playing in the Qualifiers, says Head Coach of the Guyana National Team Jamaal Shabazz.

He was pleased with the performance and effort of Konata Manning, who plays for Pele FC Trinidad side Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA. “Nata was easily our best player in the game but even his fitness is far from what is needed for the Qualifiers,” opined Shabazz.
