Sports and youth development in Strathavon, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara took a giant step forward last Sunday when U.S-based Guyanese Inty Mohamed handed over sports gear to the Strathavon Cricket Club.
At the presentation ceremony, Mohamed challenged the club to use the gear for its intended purpose, and to work overtime to produce sportsmen and sports-women who would not only excel on the field, but would also be positive role models for all youths in Strathavon.
Inty Mohamed has his roots in Cane Grove. His parents and family are from Strathavon, and he has spent many August and Christmas holidays there. He has been a keen follower of the Strathavon Cricket Team, having represented them back in the mid-1980s.
Mohamed is optimistic that the gear will be used to promote sports as an avenue to keep youths off the streets and away from drugs and crime.
The kind-hearted Mohamed pledged his continued support to the club, and wished them continued success in the future.
Assistant team manager of the Strathavon Cricket Club, Yaseer Bacchus, expressed gratitude to Mohamed for his kind gesture, and promised that the gear would be used for its intended propose. He congratulated the team on its excellent performance last year, and added that he hoped to see continued distinction, not only in cricket, but at the academic level as well.
