Once again, the Guyanese and American Business and Professional Council (GABPC) was little old St. Nick to hundreds of unfortunate children in New York this holiday season.
GABPC, a not-for-profit organization registered in the United States, hosted its annual Toys For Tots drive in partnership with the U.S. Army and Marines and Ena’s Driving School to bring Christmas cheer to the children.
GABPC’s Executive Director Shanie Persaud said that, despite the current economic downturn, the kindness and compassion of those who assist in the toy drive are exemplary. “I am consistently amazed at the generosity of our members, individuals and businesses who participate in our charitable and community work, such as this. We are indeed thankful for their contributions.”
Persaud also acknowledged the support of the Consul Generals of Barbados, St. Lucia and the Bahamas; Sybil’s Restaurant; Laparkan; retail giant Wal-Mart; and Health Plus. Wal-Mart provided US$600 in toys, while Health Plus donated toys totalling US$200.00.
“It was truly an honour to team up with GABPC for their 2nd Annual Toys for Tots drive”, said Captain Brooke Brown.
The public was asked to donate new and unwrapped non-violent toys suitable for children up to 12 years old.
