The Guyana Transport and Harbours department (T&HD) says the two ferries acquired from China are now in operation, plying the Parika\Supenaam route.
The M.V. Sabanto started operation in September, and the M.V. Kanawan followed on November 6, sailing express to Supenaam.
Minister of transport and hydraulics, Robeson Benn said so far there are no reports of hindrances in their operation. He said works are ongoing on the catwalks at the respective stellings.
The ferries have a capacity to accommodate 800 passengers in a large cabin-style, equipped with three televisions, air conditioning, canteens and can accommodate 44 small vehicles or 20 trucks.
