Three witnesses remain to testify in City Constabulary matter

Three more witnesses remain to testify in the matter against a City Constabulary Lance Corporal, who shot an unarmed Marlon Fredericks, on January 14, 2018, as he escaped from detention at the Bourda Market Outpost.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte, made this revelation on Wednesday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, when the matter was called in the courtroom of Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
Fifty-year-old Gregory Bascom of Lot 340 West Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme, Georgetown was not required to the plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on January 14, 2018, at Regent Road Bourda, Georgetown, he unlawfully killed Marlon Fredericks.
On completion of the evidence, given by two witnesses, the Magistrate adjourned the matter for September 16, 2019.
Bascom is being represented by Attorney-at-law Roger Yearwood and is currently out on G$800,000 bail citing the hearing and determination of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
According to information, on the day in question, Fredericks, 34, who was unarmed, was shot by Bascom, on January 14, 2018, as he escaped from detention at the Bourda Market Outpost.
Fredericks, who was described as mentally ill, was shot in his mother’s presence, as he ran out of the Outpost, where he was being detained on allegations of simple larceny, assault, and for assaulting a peace officer.
It was reported that Fredericks had forced his way out of the lockups when ranks opened a door to allow another prisoner to use the toilet.
Bascom tried to restrain Fredericks but he allegedly wrestled free from him and others. Bascom then shot Fredericks in his lower back with a service pistol.
The post mortem results conducted on Frederick’s showed that he was shot in the back, where the bullets pierced his lungs and exited the left side of his neck.
