Thousands participate in Linden Mash celebrations

Thousands of persons flooded the streets of Linden in glittering costumes and outfits as Region 10 hosted its annual costume and float parade last Sunday under this year’s theme “Mashin’ with pride, keepin’ we tradition alive”.

Despite periodic rainfalls, the revellers decked in an array of colours braved the weather and turned out in their numbers at the five corners junction to start the afternoon filled with excitement, gyration, laughter, enjoyment, singing, dancing, and drinking.

At approximately 13:00h, the Purple Rose Foundation led the parade, as the nine other contingents pranced behind with their mega sound systems. From the commencement of the parade, Banks DIH, ANSA McAL and Digicel had a vast amount of supporters who paraded all the way to the end.

However, the smaller contingents such as the Linden Technical Institute; Cinderella City Youth Group; the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry and the Region 10 Democratic Council did not allow their numbers to determine the outcome of the evening as they cavorted along the streets to the sounds of what appeared to be mainly soca music.

Coordinator of the region’s Mashramani procession and Deputy Regional Executive Officer Maylene Stephen told Guyana Times International that the residents of Linden didn’t disappoint the Regional Democratic Council.
