The real cowboy experience in Guyana

If you have ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a cowboy then there is a chance to have that experience in Guyana.

Milk the cows in the morning, lasso the small ones to separate them from mother so she can graze; round up the cows on horseback, brand them, and employ your bullwhip cracking skills to bring in the herd.

To Westerners they’re known as ‘cowboys’ however, in the savannah lands of Guyana they’re known as ‘vaqueros’.

For those who want to experience hard core ranch adventure and fun and don’t mind getting real dirty, working hard and getting up with the birds and anteaters to do it all over again, this is the perfect cowboy experience. The ranches of the Rupununi operate much as they did hundreds of years ago, which means plenty of manpower, but plenty of fun too.

The landscape is amazing, huge vistas span the savannah to join up with the distant jungle-clad mountains. The work can be hard, dirty and gritty, but at the end of the day there’s always amazing creeks to bathe in and have fun.

Throughout there will be a Bushmasters staff member with you as well as the ranch owners and several vaqueros who will teach you the tricks of the ranchers’ trade.

This 10-day trip really does take you back in time, where the days are long, the work hard, the camaraderie amazing and the stories only a little taller than the truth. Check out bushmasters.co.uk or Facebook page ‘Bushmasters’ for more information.
