The PPP/C’s unfettered commitment to our young Guyanese

Dear Editor,

A little over a year ago, on August 5, 2010, I graduated as an attorney from Florida International University College of Law in Miami, Florida, achieving a Juris Doctor Degree.

I recall, right around the same time, our President, His Excellency, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, personally reaching out to me, inviting me and welcoming me to return home to serve his government’s administration of our nation, extending to me the opportunity to carry on the work of my grandparents, the mother and father of our nation, Dr Cheddi Berret Jagan and Mrs Janet Jagan, an opportunity for which I am truly grateful and appreciative.

Upon returning to Guyana, under the supervision of Ms Gail Teixeira, MP, I have assisted our government to secure for our nation, the basic human right of freedom to access information, governed by the Access to Information Bill 2011, which is akin to and as paramount as freedom of expression. I have also assisted with observing and monitoring Guyana’s implementation of its international obligations as well as helping to move forward with the PPP/ C’s vision of egovernance, which will revolutionise our government’s provision of services and transform geographic restraints in hinterland and other remote locations into a thing of the past.

I mention my specific circumstances only to illustrate the unfettered commitment of President Jagdeo, which, by extension, is indicative of the PPP/C generally, to providing our young Guyanese, trained both domestically and abroad, with opportunities to work towards the full realisation of the best interests of all Guyanese people, irrespective of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, etc.

This mind-set did not begin or end with me, for there are countless other young Guyanese professionals from all walks of life who, through the PPP/C’s administration of our government, pursue pro-poor, humanitarian, community-based programmes and policies which take into account the promotion and protection of our people’s basic human rights.

In my several experiences and conversations with the man who will lead our nation forward through a comprehensive modernised framework, I can say without reservation, that our future President, Mr Donald Ramotar exemplifies this very same unfettered commitment to providing the youth of this nation (Guyana) with the tools necessary to transform themselves and our country as a whole.

What I have gathered and observed is that Mr Ramotar is cognisant of the historic disregard for young Guyanese in national affairs due to the false perception by society that they are politically and socially mute, complacent and immobile.

Mr Ramotar has the admirable vision, as President Jagdeo and Dr and Mrs Jagan before him, to realise that youth exposure to dynamic and diverse experiences provides an invaluable avenue for political and social transformation and as such, sees Guyanese children, adolescents and young adults as the primary vessels and catalysts for future change and as a crucial component of creative contribution and raising awareness.

It is plainly evident to me that Mr Ramotar and the PPP/C generally will continue to provide unique opportunities to our young Guyanese brothers and sisters in furtherance of altering the aforementioned historic disregard for young Guyanese in national affairs as well as transforming the ensuing social stigma attached to such youths.

The unfettered commitment to young Guyanese, irrespective of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, etc, followed by Dr and Mrs Jagan, President Jagdeo, Mr Ramotar and the PPP/ C, is just one of a long list of respectable, worthy reasons to come out on November 28, 2011 and support persistent progress, growth and stability by voting for the PPP/C’s continued administration of our great nation.

Respectfully submitted,

Cheddi Berret Jagan II, Esq
