The future belongs to technology

Dear Editor,

I see that the Guyanese government is holding good to its word of delivering 90,000 computers to Guyanese households around the country.

I know that, over the years, our Education Ministry has made Herculean efforts at improving the standard of education at various learning institutions, and has even put the brakes on illiteracy among some sections of the population.

We are living in a time of advanced global technology, and we cannot afford to be left behind in this world trend.

PPP General Secretary Donald Ramotar, who was most recently with Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud at the recent commissioning of a computer Centre at Albion, Corentyne, was quite correct when he told the gathering that the future belongs to technology, and that our people need to move forward in this vein.

It is also good to know that the University of Guyana will be receiving a massive facelift this year. This is something that is long overdue, and it is good to know that the government has recognised the problems at that institution, and all-round efforts are being embarked upon to take corrective measures.

Respectfully,

Rupert Gomes
