The art in photography

Photographer John Greene finds art in his pictures

John H. Greene

Photography is the art, science and practice of capturing life’s special moments. It is a field that has become very popular in Guyana, and, with the advent of advanced photography tools and software, many are investing more time and money to pursue it, whether as a hobby or a career.
For John H. Greene, a local photographer, capturing a moment requires more than just “point and shoot”; it’s an art.
In an interview with Guyana Times Sunday Magazine, John revealed that it was a picture, done by a local photographer, that sparked his interest in photography. He revealed that his father was an artist, so believes his own creative streak comes from him.
At an early age, John observed his father’s passion for the arts, which moved him to sketch his own drawings. This contributed to John’s artistic background, and, having an innate ability to be creative, John pursued photography.
The photographer has become a current sensation for his alluring photos. His photography skills and eye for details create sensational images that have made him one of the most sought after photographers in Guyana.
The creative photographer noted what makes his work distinct is his focus on the composition of his surroundings. He is inspired by “God’s creations.” Photography, he noted, is both therapeutic and a hobby, and is a lot of fun to express his creativity.

“I’m a big fan of portraits and landscape, but to pick one out of the two…I would have to go with portrait. My advice to those who want to get into photography is to go right ahead. It’s an amazing field which helps you to express your creativity and it is very rewarding. You can have the best equipment but if you don’t have an eye or passion for this it will never work,” he encouraged while cautioning.
Describing himself as a perfectionist, John said he focuses on editing and playing with light and composition in order to create “perfect” images. He plans to invest in more equipment to enhance his skills. Only a year into professional photography, John has proven that his talent isn’t learnt but inherited.  His long list of waiting clientele gives testimony to his superb artistic expertise in photography.
