Teen miner charged for murdering friend

A teen miner was on Tuesday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after he was slapped with the capital offence of murder.
The charge against Emmanuel McCloud, 19, alleged that he murdered Herbert Willie on March 24, 2019, while they were at 111 Miles, Potaro River, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) during an argument.
The prosecution is contending that on Sunday last, at about 02:20h, ranks from the Bartica Police Station received information and went to Mahdia in the vicinity of Mahdia Primary School where they saw Willie lying on the road, bleeding profusely.
He was picked up and transported to the Mahdia Hospital where he was admitted a patient but later succumbed to several stab wounds he received to his lower back.
Later that evening, police acting on information apprehended the suspect. The police have since claimed that McCloud under caution admitted to committing the offence. He was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. The case will continue on April 16, 2019, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
