Teen killed on wedding anniversary night

Cecil Sukhu (deceased) with his wife

Ajai Cecil Sukhu, 18, was last Saturday evening beaten and stabbed to death by three men in the vicinity of the Rose Hall Community Centre Ground in Berbice.
The details of the incident is a bit sketchy, but Guyana Times International understands that  Sukhu of 10 Bajan Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, reportedly left home around 18:30hrs on Saturday to go to a fair at the centre ground, which is not far away from where he lived.
His father, Chandrabose Sukhu said about 15 minutes after Ajai left, he was informed by a boy who was around the area, that his son was being beaten by three men.
Upon hearing the news, the dead man’s father rushed to the scene. When he arrived, his son was already badly wounded with several stab wounds about the body.
According to Chandrabose, the teenager was stabbed about his body and was beaten with an object.
He said he left his son lying in the same area where he found him, and rushed to get his car.
According to the father, when he returned to the scene and picked his son up, he was not responding. Still determined to save his son’s life, he took him to a nearby hospital, but no one responded.
He then diverted and went to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where his son was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man told this publication that he is still puzzled as to why his son was a target for the three men who committed the act. According to Chandrabose, he and his son have been working together for some time now selling eatables, and since his son would be in his company for most of the time, it is hard to believe that he picked a fight, or would be involved in any sort of negative activity.
The deceased was married and was celebrating his first wedding anniversary on the night of his death. His wife is eight months pregnant with their first child. According to relatives, the boy who saw how Sukhu was killed has so far identified one of the three men.
That person was taken into police custody and has since identified the others. Relatives remain baffled as to what took place on Saturday evening and are calling on police for justice. Chandrabose said it was unfortunate that his son died in the prime of his life.
