…17-year-old remanded to prison for attempted murder
La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD) teen Peter Livingstone Junior is presently battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after he was struck to the head with a 2×4 piece of wood allegedly by a 17-year-old fellow villager last week.
Guyana Times International understands that the incident occurred near Livingstone’s home in La Retraite village just after 19:30h on Friday.
Reports are that the now injured teen and the suspect, who are known to one another, were teasing each other on the day in question when an irritated Livingstone picked up the piece of wood and hit the suspect to the shoulder. The suspect then allegedly grabbed the same piece of wood and lashed Livingstone to his head, leaving him in an unconscious state on the ground.
Realising what he had done, the alleged assailant took Livingstone to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH), from where he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital owing to the fractures he reportedly sustained to his skull.
The suspect, a welder who resides at Old Road, La Retraite, has been remanded to prison by the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate before whom he appeared on Monday. He has been slapped with an attempted murder charge.
Peter Livingstone Sr is hoping that his son would recover from his injuries, as he is waiting to be admitted to the Guyana Police Force, having completed secondary school two years ago.
“We’re trusting God first and foremost for a speeding recovery of our child. As he is my only child, my expectation is greater than if he was one of many,” the man told this newspaper.
The father further said his son is slowly coming around, and is now able to respond to family members using sign language. This newspaper has been told that the Junior Livingstone is still battling some swelling to his head. The defendant, meanwhile, will return to court on November 8.
