The national table tennis team returned home with seven bronze medals while copping fourth position in the process after participating in the 18th Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships, which recently concluded in Trinidad and Tobago.
At a press briefing held at the National Gymnasium, president of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Godfrey Munroe deemed the team’s performance a success but insisted that there is still room for improvement.

“I’m pleased by the performance of the team giving certain circumstances; our team only got to participate in several local tournaments and only got together for two weeks prior to the competition… most of the players just graduated to higher categories, some of the players who dominated in the 13 and under went up to the 15 and under.
“However, in this context I think the team did well but there is a lot more work to do and we want to bring the team together more often so that the deficiencies the coaches pointed can be worked on but I think we have a good core of young athletes,” Munroe stated.
Munroe also emphasised that the racquet wielders will need more exposure going forward if they are going to make a bigger impact in the sport.
Further, Munroe also commended the management team for the job they did with the team in Trinidad.
“It (team management) is a lot of hard work and I want to commend the management team and the players because it was a herculean task to manage 16 players ensuring they are up at six in the morning to train and to ensure everything is in order,” Munroe mentioned.
