Suddie Hospital theatre to be operationalised soon – Dr Ramsaran

Suddie Hospital

Remedial work on the Suddie Hospital’s operations theater is expected to commence shortly, Heath Minister Dr Bheri Ramsaran said. The minister during a telephone interview with Guyana Times International said health authorities have recognised the need for efficient healthcare for Essequibians, and as such, is moving to operationalise the hospital’s theatre.
According to him, some time back, the theatre encountered electrical problems; as a result, it was shut down to avoid any unfortunate occurrence.
Asked when restorative work is expected to commence, Dr Ramsaran noted that the project is currently being handled by his permanent secretary, and was optimistic that the situation will be remedied soon.
Back in August of this year, a staffer at the Suddie Hospital came in contact with electricity while sanitising the theatre. According to reports, the staffer, who was unaware of a malfunctioning electrical circuit, applied a water base antiseptic, and thereafter, she felt a “sensation” in her body. However, quick response from her colleagues prevented the heath worker form any grave injury.
Recently, senior health officials at Suddie Hospital have become uncomfortable with the situation, pointing out that it is not conducive to work, and urged the ministry to respond to the problem in an efficient manner.
Since that event, electricians from Cummings Electrical have visited the hospital and carried out corrective works, but from all indications, there is more work to be done.
