In what would be an absolute treat for local boxing fans (if it ever materialises), three of Guyana’s most successful boxers, including the country’s first world champion, Andrew ‘Six Heads’ Lewis, would make up a star studded card to be staged in April at the Princess Hotel.

Guyana Times International Sport understands that the proposed card is the brainchild of overseas-based promoter Seon Bristol and would also feature fighters such as former WBA Junior Welterweight Champion, “Vicious” Vivian Harris and reigning WIBA Bantamweight champion, Shondell Alfred.

According to boxingrec.com, April 23 has been penciled in for the mega event.

According to a reliable source, no contracts have been signed as yet since opponents are yet to be announced for the three fighters.

This newspaper spoke to the father of Vivian Harris, Herman Harris, who said that the card is still in the “embryo stage” and that nothing has been confirmed. Harris noted, too, that such an ambitious card would require strong corporate input. This publication was unable to make contact with Bristol, who is currently overseas.

Harris (29 fights, 23 wins [19 Kos], 5 losses, 1 draw) became Guyana’s second world champion on October 19, 2002 when he defeated Diosbelys Hurtado in Texas, U.S.A. for the WBA and IBA Junior Welterweight Titles. He would lose those titles in June 2006 to Columbian Carlos Maussa. The last two of Harris’s fights have resulted in defeats via the knock-out route and April could be an opportune time for the 32year-old to return to winning ways.

Boxing rec.com stated that the 28year-old Alfred would be fighting for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) Super Flyweight title.

Alfred told Guyana Times International that she was approached about a fight but thought it was a defence of her title. Although she is yet to know her opponent, Alfred said she is already in the Gym preparing for the possible April fight.

Alfred (18 fights,13 wins, [4 KOs], 5 losses ) became Guyana’s second female world champion on September 26, 2009 when she scored a unanimous decision victory over Canadian Corinne Van Ryck De Groot at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
