St Joseph’s cruise to victory in field events

St. Joseph’s High School cruised to a big win in the field events of the East Georgetown Zone Inter-Schools competition at the Guyana Teachers’ Union ground on Wednesday. SJH finished on 292 points with Tutorial High School being the closest finisher on 202 points. North Georgetown came third with 169 points. St Winifred Secondary totaled 98, followed by New Campbeville Secondary (90), Mae’s Secondary (89), Queenstown Secondary (83), Mercy Wing Vocational (71), Sophia Special (7), and Royal Academy Educational Institute (4).

Meanwhile, students, teachers and onlookers were locked on the intense rivalry in the Under-18 javelin and the Under-14 shot put events. In the female javelin Annette Edwards of Mercy Wing Vocational was unstoppable with her best distance being 18.70 meters.
Jessica Samaroo of St Joseph High was second (15.35m) and Tenisha Griffith was third (14.23m). The male javelin event saw Nimrod John of Mercy Wing Vocational winning the event with a distance of 38.50m, while Randal Duguid of St Joseph’s High was not far behind with his best distance being 34.54m. Taitun Taitun was third after throwing 29.34m.
The female Shot Put was a close contest with Tutorial High’s Kezia Austin winning with a distance of 5.58m. Annie Westford of Queenstown was second (5.33m) while N’tasha Clarke from St Joseph High was third (5.18m).
Dante DaSilva from Mae’s threw a distance of 7.95 to cop first while SJH’s George Jacobs finished second and Timmon Tennis from St Winifred third (6.95m).
Meanwhile, the primary school students were in action in the field events on Tuesday with the exception of the long jump. Camilla Institute accumulated 79 points to finish on top. St Gabriel’s was second with 67 points, followed by Redeemer (65), Stella Maris (50), Rama Krishna (42), Sophia (39), F. E Pollard (36), J. E Burnham (27), Bel Air ( 2), and Mae’s (03).
