A single mother of three is desperately longing to see her four-year-old child lead a vibrant, illness-free life, like he once did before being diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease almost two years ago.
Rewinna David of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is making all efforts to raise G$10 million to facilitate her son, Junior Kentolall undergoing a much-needed surgery in Colombia.
David told Guyana Times International that “the doctors discovered it about two years now. He recently came out of the hospital. Last week Thursday, he was discharged and I’m trying to see if I can raise ten million dollars to do the surgery in Colombia or any other organisation that can assist in whatever way.”
The concerned mother added that since being discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital, Kentolall’s condition is slowly becoming worse. She shared that besides enduring immense pain, the child has to be dosed with Lasix, a medication used to treat fluid build-up due to heart failure, liver scarring, or kidney disease.
“Presently, … he has to be on rapid Lasix and he cries out for a lot of pain which makes him unable to sleep at nights, and he also has a lot of shortness of breath,” David said.
An account has been set up at Citizens Bank (#218963959), for persons who are interested in donating financially. David shared that so far one organisation has reached out to donate, but there was still a long way to go.
Since his diagnosis, little Kentolall has not been able to attend school or have a normal life, instead, he spends most of his time in and out of hospitals.
Rheumatic heart disease is a condition in which the heart valves have been permanently damaged by rheumatic fever. The heart valve is damaged by this disease that generally begins with a strep throat caused by bacteria which eventually develops into rheumatic fever.
David is asking persons to help save her son’s life by donating. Interested persons can contact her on cell number (592)-692-8838.
