Shuffler to meet FIVB president

Lennie Shuffler

President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF), Lennie Shuffler, has been invited to meet with new president of the world governing body for volleyball, the FIVB, Dr. Ary Graca, and executives of the South American Volleyball Federation (CSV) in Rio, Brazil, on November 12-13.
This is a follow-up to Shuffler’s continued request for Brazil to become ‘Big Brother’ to the GVF and that a South American Volleyball Association be formed, comprising the federations of Amapa (Brazil), Cayenne, Suriname, Guyana and Roraima (Brazil).
Shuffler feels this will be the first instance for the development of volleyball in this part of South America with increased activities at an affordable cost.
Shuffler started this process in 2001 when he presented his Bloc Development Plan which was approved by FIVB and CSV in 2004.
That plan also included Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago for the same purpose.
“A South American Zonal Association which could be the first in South America could see more financial and administrative support from FIVB and CSV. With FIVB’s new direction of greater support to developing federations, Dr. Graca sees this as a positive step in the right direction for CSV to adopt,” Shuffler said.
The GVF has already benefitted from its collaboration with the FIVB and CSV, as the local federation was this year the beneficiary of a spanking new Taraflex floor that was laid at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Several other associations are also benefiting from the use of this world-class indoor floor, which Shuffler said can last a long time with proper care.
The GVF has a packed calendar of activities for the remainder of the year, and with the IGG Goodwill Games in Guyana on Saturday, the FIVB/ CSV meeting on November 12-13, the Tradewind Tankers International tournament on November 16-18 and the ongoing nationwide schools programme, Shuffler believes “the signs are good, and volleyball is getting back on track.”
