By North American Correspondent

A holiday season free luncheon was held on Sunday December 18th for Queens-based Guyanese seniors at the elegant Villa Russo catering hall in Richmond Hill. Several non-Guyanese also attended the event which saw a few politicians addressing the gathering.

The lunch was served at no cost to anyone and allowed seniors an opportunity to socialize with other local senior citizens and to reminisce about the old Guyanese Christmas. It provided them with much needed merry-making.

The luncheon was planned and hosted by real estate developer Frank Singh, the Indo-Caribbean Federation, Rita Panday, District Leader Dr. Taj Rajkumar, and other community advocates.

Frank Singh gave the opening remarks and also emceed the event. Singh thanked the community organisations for their contributions for making the event a success. He also applauded those who gave donations as well as the volunteers who worked hard to put together the program and organise Christmas gifts for everyone.

This was the seventh annual luncheon, an idea initiated by Singh, the Indo-Caribbean Federation and other groups and individuals.

The elderly Guyanese American citizens said they had a most joyous time celebrating the yuletide season and the end of the year in N.Y. The event was much appreciated by the seniors’ thus concluding another successful Seniors’ Christmas Lunch.
