-Will play in remaining Regional preliminary matches
Ramnaresh Sarwan will be back in Guyana’s team for the last three preliminary matches of the ongoing West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-Day tournament according to information coming out of the Guyana Cricket Board yesterday (Tuesday).
According to a release from the GCB Sarwan met with members of the GCB on Friday 17. After that meeting, he wrote the Board indicating his availability to represent Guyana.
Sarwan has had a chaotic past few months with the GCB that saw him being dropped by the local selection panel for the Caribbean Twenty20 tourna ment on the grounds of fitness. He was also omitted from the squad for the regional first-class championship after initially being named.
However, this publication has since learnt that Sarwan has gained the selectors’ nod to play against four-time defending champions Jamaica, current leaders in the tournament on 36 points, in the day/night encounter at the Sir Vivian Richards grounds in Antigua from February 24-27. Guyana, who are second in the competition on 24 points, will then move to Barbados for their fifth game from March 9-12 before moving on to play their final preliminary game in Trinidad and Tobago from March 16- 19.
Sarwan, who has scored 11,822 runs in First Class cricket at an average of 39.40, along with aggressive opening batsman Trevon Griffith, will be replacing former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon and Rajendra Chandrika, who have had a horrible time this season.
On the other hand, the GCB also took time to offer congratulations to the team on their performance so far in the tournament and wished them all the best in their future matches.
