Salvation Army distributes 1200 Christmas hampers

As the time of sharing and giving gets underway, the Salvation Army, in collaboration with the Private Sector Commission (PSC) and Food For The Poor Guyana, distributed some 1200 hampers to senior citizens.

The activity was executed on Monday when the venerable organisation hosted its annual Christmas distribution exercise at its divisional headquarters, Alexander Street, Georgetown.
The facility was filled to capacity, leaving the organisers with no other alternative but to bring in extra seating. The Salvation Army’s Divisional Commander, Major Saint-Lot explained that the distribution drive would continue in 2018 and beyond, and as such, they would be soliciting the assistance of corporate Guyana.
The main supporters of the 1200 hampers included the Food For The Poor Guyana and the PSC.
PSC Chairman Eddie Boyer told the gathering that the organisation’s charitable work would extend beyond the holiday season.
Over the years, the Salvation Army has been raising funds using bell ringers outside various business places urging the public to donate. The monies collected are used in several areas, especially in counselling sessions for drug addicts and others.
The gathering was entertained by renditions of Christmas carols.
