Ekaterinburg is a major Eurasian transportation hub, industrial and business centre that in recent years hosted several major domestic and international events.
It is also a leading cultural, educational and scientific centre. Guyana’s relationship with Russia exists at the multilateral level where the two countries speak with one voice on issues vital to peace, security and sustainable development.
The Russian scholarship programme has over the decades offered many Guyanese, including former President Bharrat Jagdeo the opportunity to pursue higher education at prestigious universities in Russia.
This year, more Guyanese are expected to return as trained doctors and economists.
Russia’s recent decision to write-off more than $ 50 million of Guyana’s bilateral debt was welcomed as a benevolent gesture that will allow the Guyana government to channel much needed resources towards the development of programmes.
