Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee on Tuesday evening launched two anthologies of his speeches, bills, motions and debates that he tabled and presented in the National Assembly over the years.
At the Police Mess Hall, Eve Leary, Rohee presented and autographed hard copies of “Our Public Security Legislative Agenda: Bills, Motions and Debates tabled in the National Assembly” and “Securing Our Nation: A Collection of Speeches” to those attending the launch.
The minister dedicated the books to President Bharrat Jagdeo and the head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon. ” I do so, because were it not for the support and the HPS as we call him – Dr Luncheon – the security sector and particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs would not have been successful as it is, given the plaudits that we received this afternoon.” Rohee added that he published the books because he is a believer “in getting your views out in the public so that people could judge you”. He added it was important for the people of Guyana to know all the views that are available so that they in turn can judge the level of competency and awareness in respect to a person’s portfolio.
Reviewing “Securing Our Nation: A Collection of Speeches”, Major General Retired Norman McLean pointed out that Minister Rohee was a person who has always insisted that things be recorded for historical reference.
Moreover, McLean said the books are very important documents worthy of research and study and can serve as a guideline to scholars.
“Securing Our Nation: A Collection of Speeches” consists of 63 speeches, 35 per cent of which address the Guyana Police Force and related issues.
Meanwhile, Works Minister Robeson Benn, who reviewed “Our Public Security Legislative Agenda: Bills, Motions and Debates tabled in the National Assembly”, indicated that the number of bills Rohee led in the National Assembly have transformed the security sector and the fight against crime.
“The collection in itself by Minister Rohee, in terms of the legislative agenda related to public security, is seminally important.
It gives us a ready document, a ready source of archival material which relates to issues which are fundamental to our national progress,” said Benn.
” Our Public Security Legislative Agenda: Bills, Motions and Debates tabled in the National Assembly” consists of 29 bills, five motions, two debates and contributions by the home affairs minister in two separate budget presentations.
The “twin publications” as Rohee referred to the books will be available on soft copy for free at his ministry. There will be a limited number of hard copies. Minister Rohee is also the author of “Facing the Challenges”, “Reform the European Union Sugar Regime”, “Guyana’s Foreign Policy Towards the 21st Century” and “Those Days”. The minister also coauthored “Guyana: A Bed of Thorns” with Dr Cheddi Jagan.
