Twelve-year-old Laksmana Ramroop stunned Guyana’s golfing world on Saturday to win the Demerara Mutual Life golf tournament at the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demerara.

The talented Ramroop ended with Net 63 and Gross 91 to win ahead of Patanjalee “Pur” Persaud and Parmanand Persaud.

Patanjalee “Pur” Persaud in second place chalked up Net 67 and Gross 85, while Parmanand Persaud finished third with Net 67 and Gross 87.

Nearest-to-the-Pin was Gavin Todd, while Best Gross of the day was won by Patrick Prashad.

Leslie Kellman was adjudged the most honest golfer.

At the presentation ceremony Marketing Manager Clarence Perry expressed delight at the company’s partnership with the Lusignan Golf Club.

Director of Sports Christopher Jones who visited the Club for the first time, assured that the Club can look forward to support from the Department of Sports.

Club President Oncar Ramroop conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Insurance Company, Director of Sports and all competitors and spectators.

Ramroop indicated that for its 50 years of operation, the Golf Club has received no material support for maintenance from Government. However, he hoped the presence of the Director of Sports would establish some kind of material assistance – whether financial, machinery or otherwise – that would contribute some relief to the club in the significant burden of maintaining the sport and especially the grounds.
