Ramotar, Granger hold talks

President Ramotar and his aides: Dr Roger Luncheon and Gail Teixeira hold talks with APNU’s presidential candidate David Granger and his campaign manager, Joseph Harmon at the Office of the President on December 5

President Donald Ramotar and leader of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) David Granger on Monday met for talks at the Office of the President.

Details of the meeting were not immediately available, but Guyana Times International was told that the two leaders discussed issues of governance and Parliament.

Ramotar has pledged to work with the opposition in managing the country. He did acknowledge that with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s lack of a majority in Parliament, it was important for the parties to work together for the good of the country.

At the meeting, Ramotar was accompanied by his Cabinet Secretary and head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon as well as Gail Teixeira, former adviser on Governance to President Bharrat Jagdeo.

Granger was accompanied by his campaign manager, Attorney Joseph Harmon.

Following last week’s declaration of the results of the 2011 general and regional elections, the three presidential candidates met at Parliament and agreed to continue talks among themselves and through their representatives. The meeting with Ramotar, Granger and Alliance For Change’s Khemraj Ramjattan was held in the Committee Room of the National Assembly.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) release, the meeting was convened to discuss issues of interest to the people of Guyana. “The presidential candidates agreed that there will be follow-up meetings directly and through their representatives,” the GINA release concluded.
