The post-mortem examination which was performed by pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh on Wednesday morning cleared up all speculations that suggested that Puran might have been murdered, with his death coming mere hours after one of his clients, Ricardo Rodrigues was gunned down.
Attorney Glenn Hanoman confirmed the results of the post-mortem examination that Puran died from drowning. He said relatives of the deceased are still distraught to talk about the incident, but as far as he knows, they were making final arrangements for cremation on Friday at the Good Hope Crematorium, East Coast Demerara.
Meanwhile, condolences continue to pour in from various people and organisations on the passing of Puran. Attorney Nigel Hughes described Puran as one of the best practitioners at the criminal bar, noting that to say his demise was unfortunate would be an understatement. He also expressed his condolences to the Puran’s family.
Another Attorney, Basil Williams recalled that on Sunday at Belgrave’s funeral, he said that death comes in a twinkling of an eye and Puran’s death is a testimony to the statement.
Williams said he was shocked when he received the news of Puran’s passing, and extends his sympathies to the bereaved family. He also noted that the fraternity has lost an excellent lawyer, and more so, the country has lost a son of the soil.
Head of the Custom Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) James Singh in an invited comment stated that Puran’s death came as a shock. He said ironically Puran worked against the agency by defending drug offenders, and during his last days, worked for the agency to assist in the conviction of drug traffickers.
He noted that Puran has served as a special prosecutor for the agency, and has served with excellence and professionalism. He also expressed his profound condolences to his family.
Puran, 57, of 177 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was discovered dead in his vehicle on Tuesday morning at Esau and Jacob, Mahaicony. Upon his discovery, it was suspected that Puran may have been involved in a vehicular accident.
