…prosecution gets report
The psychiatric report on the mental capacity of Orwain Sandy, who in April reportedly murdered his reputed wife, Reona Payne, has been completed by Dr Bhiro Harry of the Mental Health Unit and was handed over to the Court.
When the matter was called on Wednesday before Magistrate Judy Latchman, the prosecution revealed that they were in receipt of the psychiatric report, which was handed over to the Court. However, the contents of the report were not disclosed.
Sandy’s lawyer, James Bond requested additional time to conduct an independent evaluation on his client. This was granted, and the matter was adjourned to May 24, 2018. Sandy was further remanded.
During Sandy’s first appearance, he appeared distraught and was crying throughout the court proceedings.
At that time, his attorney had requested for a mental health examination to be carried out.
The charge against the defendant stated that on March 31, 2018, while in the vicinity of First Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown, he murdered Payne. Guyana Times had previously reported that the couple were in their car proceeding along First Street when a heated argument reportedly ensued.
During the argument, Payne exited the vehicle and Sandy reportedly pursued her and shot her once, causing her to fall to the ground. He then reportedly stood over her and shot her 13 more times. The man then left the scene of the crime and turned himself in to the Police. Payne and Sandy reportedly dated some years ago, but later married different persons. However, a few years later, they left their spouses and resumed their relationship.
