Preparation heats up for major horse race meet

Preparations have picked up for the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) horse race meet which is scheduled for November 18 at the club’s track at Alness, Corentyne, Berbice.
With the horses having a little break after a hectic two months, all the big names in the horse racing circle are expected to converge on the arena, for what is expected to be one of the biggest race meets of the last quarter.
Some of the major sponsors in horse racing have already inked their names to the big meet. On board so far are; Banks DIH Limited, Jumbo Jet Auto sales and stables, Trophy Stall, City Mall and Digicel.
Eight races are carded for the day and already over 35 horses have been entered for the big meet. Organisers have also added a substantial amount of cash and other attractions to the day’s activities.
The winning tag for the feature B Class event is Gy$1M and trophy with close to Gy$2M on offer over the 1700m race.
The Three-year-old race for West Indies bred horses is Gy$400,000 and trophy over 1600m, the E and Lower race has a winning prize of Gy$350,000 and trophy over 1500m, the Two-year old race for West Indies bred horses has a winning prize of Gy$350,000 and trophy over 1200m, the G and Lower matchup for a pole position has a reward of Gy$250,000 and trophy, also over 1200m.
The H and Lower sprint will see the animals competing over 1100m for a winning take of Gy$200,000 and trophy. The winner of the I-2 event has a chance to take home Gy$150,000 and trophy in the 1200m race while the final race for the day is for animals classified J&K (Divisions 1 and 2,) over 1200m with the winner set to collect Gy$150,000 and a trophy.
Race time is 13:00 hours and outstanding individual performers, including the top jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with incentives.
Meantime, preparatory work has commenced on the arena. Entries close on November 11 at the club’s office at No. 13 village Hermitage, Corentyne, Berbice.
