Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Manniram Prashad has expressed satisfaction with the response from entrepreneurs and patrons at this year’s mega trade event.
The exposition on Thursday was declared open at the National Exhibition Centre at Sophia. Over the years, the event has received tremendous support from exhibitors, which has contributed in making it one of international repute.
Prasad encouraged small business owners to use GuyExpo as a means to expand their operations.
“GuyExpo is about showcasing your products; getting linkages outside, which is very important; getting into joint ventures with people who have got the capital.
“We have got the expertise and skills, we need people with capital to link up with our entrepreneurs to become a big entrepreneur, not only in Guyana, but overseas as well. And I am proud to see small business owners taking advantage of this opportunity,” Prashad said.
Some of the established companies present at this year’s expo include Banks DIH., Sterling Products, Demerara Distillers, Digicel, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Cellphone Shack, Gizmos and Gadgets, National Hardware, Multi-Builders Inc, and Melsha’s Furniture Store.
Held under the theme “Enhancing Growth through Competitiveness,” GuyExpo provides a platform for the business community to establish trade links, to widen their operations, and inform the public of developments in the business sector.
This year’s expo has attracted a large number of arts and craft producers from across Guyana, along with hundreds of entrepreneurs who are now trying to make an impact on Guyana’s economy.
A delegation of 70 from neighbouring Suriname and 45 through the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Development Organisation (SEBREA) were part of the grand event, which concluded on Monday, October 3.
