PPP promises to work harder in 2011 to transform Guyana

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has extended best wishes to all Guyanese for a peaceful, prosperous, and happy 2011. In a message to mark the occasion, the party said 2010 had been marked by more achievements in Guyana.

“The economy grew despite the difficult international economic situation, social services were expanded, and democracy further consolidated. More of our people have moved into their own homes in the past year. Our country has been building at a very rapid rate.” According to the party, internationally, Guyana has received a lot of praise for its advocacy of preserving forests to improve the world’s environment and to mitigate the climate change phenomenon.

“Our president, Bharrat Jagdeo, was given the high award of ‘Champion of the Earth’ for his outstanding work in the protection of the environment. This recognition is remarkable for our country, which only two decades ago was known internationally for poor performance of the economy and an undemocratic form of government.” The PPP said 2011 promises to be exciting, noting that it will work even harder to accelerate the economic, political, and social progress that has been made.

“The year 2011 is also an election year. The PPP/Civic will be contesting, and we will work hard to see that the gains which we made would continue in the future with another resounding victory at the polls. We are confident that the people of Guyana will demonstrate their confidence in PPP/ C once more. Once again, the PPP extends best wishes to all Guyanese here and abroad for a peaceful, prosperous and happy New Year,” the message concludes.
