“I can give anything to see my children alive again, I love them dearly” – A mother speaks

The 12 survivors in a boat collision on Tuesday that claimed the lives of six persons are thanking God for sparing their lives.
The survivors included staff of the One Laptop Per Family Programme and Region Two Chairman Parmanand Persaud. They were in the region’s boat when the accident with a passenger’s boat owned by Harrinarine Bhagwandin occurred. None of them was hurt.
Speaking with Guyana Times International, Persaud said the death of the passengers in the other boat is unfortunate, and extended sympathy to their relatives.
Another survivor, Melrose Henry, who is still shaken by the incident, is also thankful to God for saving her life.
Another passenger on the boat, Davin Misir, a verification officer, stated that it was raining heavily on the fateful day when he heard screams from his colleagues, shouting “captain look out, look out, there is a boat coming, there is a boat coming!”
On Wednesday, Guyana Times International visited the homes of Rajkumar Singh and Amerita Singh, two children who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
Their mother Beverley Narine said “I can give anything to see my children alive again, I love them dearly.”
The mother, who was at the Charity Oscar Joesph Palour, said her children left home Tuesday evening with excitement, stating they were going to see their grandmother who was not well.
The woman said her children were supposed to return home early Wednesday morning as they did not plan to stay overnight. She said her brother-in-law, Vincent Singh, 40, who was returning home from the interior, also lost his life in the collision.
