Police unearth 8kg ganja in Berbice minibus

MarijuanaA man is now in Police custody after traffic ranks discovered eight kilograms of marijuana stashed away in a minibus in which he was a passenger.

According to information received, about 08:35h on Sunday, the Route 50 minibus was proceeding along a road in the vicinity of Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice when Police ranks on traffic duty pulled it over after their suspicions were aroused by activities in the bus.

The ranks then conducted a search, during which they unearthed a haversack containing eight kilograms of cannabis sativa. The driver of the minibus and a male passenger were arrested and taken into custody, and an investigation was subsequently launched. Guyana Times understands that during questioning, the passenger admitted to ownership of the narcotic.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum informed this publication that the driver was released soon after the passenger’s confession. He also disclosed that the detained man would be brought before the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court today to answer to the charge of trafficking in narcotics.
