A Police rank attached to the Macapa Base, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was on Tuesday shot and injured after the vessel he was travelling in came under attack by a group of men on the Venezuelan side of the border. Corporal Quincy Alexander, 38, of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was shot to the lower back and was late Tuesday evening medevac to Georgetown to receive medical treatment.
His condition is listed as serious but stable. Based on reports received, the Police rank was among a group of passengers onboard a wooden vessel and as it was travelling from Eteringbang to Macapa, it came under fire.
The incident, according to Police, occurred at about 12:00h in the vicinity of Butanuamu Creek Point, Region Seven. The other passengers in the board reportedly jumped overboard and used the boat as a shield. It is unclear if the Police rank returned fire. An investigation has been launched into the attack.
