As the Police Force intensifies its investigation into two high-profile offences, including the execution of ex-soldier Courtney Crum-Ewing, former Press and Publicity Officer under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Administration, Kwame McCoy was arrested on Wednesday evening.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times International that the official was arrested and is being interrogated in connection with two “serious offences”.

While he remains tight-lipped about the offences, the head of the Criminal Investigations Department noted that McCoy has joined his colleague,   Jason Abdulla and self-confessed death squad member, Sean Hinds as suspects as investigations continue.

This newspaper understands that the men were arrested after new information surfaced in relation to Crum-Ewing’s murder. The other matter, this publication understands, might involve assault.

Blanhum rubbished claims that Abdulla was removed from the Diamond Police Station and taken to Camp Ayanganna where he was being interrogated. Jason Abdulla and Sean Hinds were both arrested on Monday evening – Abdulla at Freedom House, Robb Street, Georgetown, where he was employed at the time, and Hinds was arrested while at his home.

Hinds was arrested numerous times in connection with several crimes, but more recently, after his revelation about being a member of the death squad, during which he implicated several high-profile Police ranks in various matters ranging from “hits” to gun possession.

Meanwhile, attempts to contact Abdulla’s Attorney proved futile.

Crum-Ewing, a 40-year-old father of three, was gunned down execution style on March 10 while urging residents of the Diamond Housing Scheme to go out and cast their ballots during the May 11 General Election

An autopsy revealed that Crum-Ewing was shot five times – three bullets to the head, one to the back of the neck while the fifth bullet entered under one of his arms. All the bullets were fired from behind and at close range except the one that hit under his arm and exited his shoulder.

It was also reported that the bullet wound to the back of the man’s neck was at point-blank range and gunpowder residue was found on the back of the collar of the shirt he was wearing. This newspaper was told that two .38 war heads were removed from the dead man’s head.

Following the death of the man who rose to popularity after picketing former Attorney General Anil Nandlall’s office, Reagan Rodrigues also called “Grey Boy” was arrested and charged. Nandlall’s former bodyguard, Rajput Narine, was also arrested.
