The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Political Secretary, Sandra Adams, MS, passed away on Tuesday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) following heart related complications.
Adams, who hails from Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) served in various leading capacities over the years, including Deputy Director of Community Development Councils, and Regional Councillor and Region 10 Party Chairman among others. She was also the sister of Minister Valerie Adams-Yearwood. Shortly after her passing, Adams-Yearwood posted a photo of Adams lying on a bed to her Facebook profile with the caption “My sister Sandra Adams died this morning at the GPHC”.
Adams was recently hospitalised for heart related complications but was discharged. Shortly after being discharged, she attended the sod turning exercise to mark the construction of the Linden passport office in the town on Saturday, an event which she chaired.
In a message of condolence by President David Granger, the Head of State said he was “deeply saddened” at the passing of Adams.
The message went on to state that “Ms Adams was a dedicated public servant, community organiser and political activist. She served as the Assistant National Director of the Community Development Council in the Ministry of Communities. She was the Principal Political Secretary and member of the Central Executive Committee of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and also the Regional Chairman of the Party’s Upper Demerara-Berbice Region.”
Adams was a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2006. The President in his statement also extended sympathy to Adams’s family.
