PNCR honours party stalwarts at final general council meeting for 2012

The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) held its fourth and final general council meeting for 2012 in the auditorium at Congress Place last Saturday.
In a release, the party said the delegates attending the council – which is the highest decision-making organ of the party between biennial congresses – represented each of the 10 administrative regions.

The party chairman, Basil Williams welcomed the delegates and gave the opening address. He also chaired the morning session of the programme.
Since 2012 marks the 55th anniversary of the party, the programme included a special award ceremony, honouring party stalwarts from each of the 10 regions of Guyana.
The party, the release said has decided that this would be an annual event to coincide with its October 5 anniversary. Additionally, party leader Brigadier David Arthur Granger, gave a wide ranging keynote address, which charted the course for the future of the party. At the close of the programme, he delivered an inspirational summation and charge to delegates.
The morning programme included a panel presentation by the party General Secretary Oscar Clarke, who reported on the present state of the party. The Assistant General Secretary and Opposition Chief Whip Amna Ally gave an overview of parliamentary matters.
This was followed by a very lively plenary discussion session which enabled delegates to deal with critical issues of concern to the party.  The afternoon session was chaired by Volda Lawrence, one of the vice chairpersons of the party. The major business included the presentation of motions and resolutions, which were debated and approved by the general council.
