Chairman of the National Selectors and former Guyana fast bowler Rayon Griffith outlined that while the selection panel will be looking at a number of factors before the final Guyana Jaguars squad is selected, “players’ commitment” will be the key criteria for selection.

According to Griffith, the squad for the first round of the second edition of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League Regional Four-day franchise tournament, which commences on November 6, will be selected after the two four-day practice games.

The first practice game is confirmed for October 12-15 at the Georgetown Cricket Club, while Game Two is scheduled for October 26-29 at a venue to be decided.

“Commitment is the top priority for us. We (selectors) are also looking at attitude, fitness and of course performance,” Griffith added.

Under the new franchise system, each of the six franchises is allowed to have 15 contracted players.

However, apart from those contracted players, other players who have reached the selector’s criteria are also eligible for selection under the ‘Pay for Play’ criteria.

The Guyana Jaguars contracted players for the 2015-2016 season are: Christopher Barnwell, Anthony Bramble, Paul

Wintz, Raymon Reifer, Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Shimron Hetymer, Ronsford Beaton, Keon Joseph, Assad Fudadin, Rajendra Chandrika, Vishual Singh, Javon Searles and Kandasammy Surujnarine.

Further, it must be noted that batsmen Leon Johnson and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are part of the Jaguars’ set-up, but were not considered for contracts since both batsmen have WICB retainer contracts.

The players awarded Academy Contracts from Cricket Guy Inc for the year 2015-2016 are: Gudakesh Motie, Anthony Adams, Raun Johnson, Keemo Paul, Raj Nannan, Steven Sankar, Robin Bacchus, Kemol Savory, Kevon Boodie, Dexter Solomon, Steven Jacobs, Tevin Imlach and Akshaya Persaud.

The Guyana Jaguars are defending champions of the PCL Four-day competition. (rajivb@guyanatimesgy.com)
