The experienced Robin Persaud emerged champion of the 21st annual R&R International-sponsored post-Mashramani 11-race cycling programme at the inner circuit of the National Park on Saturday.
Competing in the feature 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race, Persaud finished with a winning time of one hour, 17 minutes, 34 seconds (01h:17m:34s).
The talented Marlon Williams finished in second position, while Raymond Newton ended in third spot, followed by Orville Hinds, Paul De Nobrega and Walter Grant-Stuart in that order to round off the top six finishers.
Raynauth Jeffrey carted off three of the eight sprint prizes, while Hinds won two, and Newton, De Nobrega and Grant-Stuart shared the other three.
Earlier in the programme, which was organised by national cycling coach Hassan Mohammed, Jamal Arthur rode away with the BMX Boys’ 6-9 event from Thuran Garbarran and Denzil Huntley. Arthur again took pole position in the BMX Boys’ 9-2 race from Filbert Walters and Huntley.
In the BMX Boys’ 12-14 category, Adrian Sharma took the top position from Yousuf Latiff, and Kemraj Sanichar with Naomi Singh defeating Alfie Soonaram and Stephon Lovell to take the BMX 12-14 Boys’ and Girls’ three- lap event.
Morkel Diaz took the BMX Boys’ Open category with Cleveland King and Ricardo Sharma finishing in second and third positions respectively.
In the Veterans’ Under-50 category, Newton took the top podium finish from Kennard Lovell, while Thuran Harris finished third. Kerkwood Kellman won the Over-50 category from Lancelot Rose and Wilfred Thom.
Monty Parris rode away with the Veterans’ Over-60 category from Harry Lall and Maurice Fagundes, while De Nobrega took the top position in the Juveniles 10-lap event, with Raynauth Jeffery and Kurt La Rose in second and third spots respectively.
