Donnel Perry, representing Buddy’s Gym, and Eyob Orford of Total Fitness Gym, copped the respective Novices and Intermediate overall crowns when the Banks Malta Supreme/ Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) opened its 2012 season on Saturday evening at the Theatre Guild, Parade Street, Kingston.
Over 40 competitors took to the stage before a packed Theatre Guild audience, and despite a few glitches with the music for the Free Posing Routines for some of the athletes, patrons enjoyed an evening of muscle flexing.
Perry, with his well defined physique after winning the Bantamweight 65Kg (Under 143lbs) category ahead of Eyob Orford and Yogish Hirmal of the Muscle Mania Gym, went on to win the overall Novices category from his five other competitors. His well cut body made judging easy and the decision was expected.
Already captivating the crowd with his previous appearances on stage, Perry became a crowd pleaser and joined the Intermediate category and competed in the Lightweight division that was won by Terrence Morris of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Gym.
The night’s activity saw just two females competing in the Miss Fitness Open and one female competing in the Miss Body Fitness.
Nadina Taharally of Interline Fitness Gym did enough to catch the eyes of the five-judge panel to win the Miss Fitness Open contest from Sharon Lee. Lee however was the lone competitor in the Miss Body Fitness showdown. As a side attraction, fans were treated to guest poser Mark ‘Uno’ Perry. Perry won the Mr. Guyana (2008) title as well as the inaugural Hugh Ross Classic.
Next up on the GABBF calendar is their Annual Senior Championship which will be held sometime in July at a venue yet to be decided.
